TALKIN' 'BOUT A REVOLUTION
Don't you know
They're talkin' 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
It sounds like a whisper
Don't you know
They're talkin' 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
While they're standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waiting for a promotion
Don't you know
Talkin' 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
Poor people gonna rise up
And get their share
Poor people gonna rise up
And take what's theirs
Don't you know
You better run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run
Oh I said you better
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run
'Cause finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkin' bout a revolution
Yes, finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkin' bout a revolution, oh no
Talkin' bout a revolution, oh
While they're standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waiting for a promotion
This song was writed by Tracy Chapman on 1988, during the Cold War and it is considered a Marxist song because his lyrics. To Marx, the capitalist class ( the bougrgeoise ) controlled the most of the factories and important corporations, and they were ignoring the poor and middle classes. She sings about normal people wasting their lives waiting for government assistance and better jobs, because the most of the owners of a factory exploited occupationally his workers, sometimes mistreating them. It looks like she is talking to a bourgeois, explaining him/her what's going on: people is starting to get tired of they way to abuse and the're starting to plan a revolution to get back his rights. Then she says "You better run, run, run ..." making reference to the bourgeois, because the poor people is going to take command and the things gonna change. With time this song has become one of the most famous protest songs, and some people consider it the Greatest Song of the History of the music. Chapman has said that she can use his music as a form of social activism, and this is a clear example of how a few letters can make everybody understand how bad the poor class passed during the 80's.
